At Florida State Thespians, our students and troupe directors are our top priority, always, and giving students the opportunity to learn, grow, and shine in the theatre arts is something we hold very dear. It is with a heavy heart, and a deep understanding of the impact this will have, we announce that in compliance with guidance issued by the Governor and the City of Tampa to contain the community spread of COVID-19, the Florida State Thespian Festival 2020 has been cancelled.
Unfortunately at this time, there is not an option for an alternate date, despite diligent efforts to find one. I know that this announcement will be met with mixed emotions and many questions. As our Board of Directors and I work through the next steps, your patience is greatly appreciated. This may take quite some time. Rest assured that we are working through these complex issues and will promptly provide updates as information becomes available, recognizing that transparency and communication are vital at this time.
Parent and student inquiries should be directed to their school’s troupe directors. Troupe directors, please contact your district chairs for the most updated information.
If you booked hotels through our Housing Agent, HelmsBriscoe, please contact them directly to assist you in the cancellation process, as well as your bus companies.
Please reassure students who were planning on participating in Thespys™ at the Florida State Thespian Festival 2020 that they may participate in the Thespys™ Program at the International Thespian Festival (ITF). The chapter qualification requirement will be waived for this year only and apply only to chapters that cancelled or postponed their event due to COVID-19.
This is a strange and unprecedented time in our world, and I ask that you all continue to find ways to turn to the arts for expression, comfort, and community. Please know how much each of you mean to us, and we look forward to finding opportunities to gather and celebrate theatre in the (as-near-as-possible) future.
Lindsay M. Warfield,
Chapter Director, Florida State Thespians
